Madd Style Cosmetics: Office Friendly

Hiiii Everyone!

Today is Halloween, but instead of bringing a "Halloween" tutorial I wanted to start off doing the tutorials that were requested in my 100 Followers Giveaway! One reader requested that I do a tutorial for a look that would be office (or interview) appropriate. Since I just recently received the *lovely* Madd Style Cosmetics Coffee House Collection, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to knock out a pretty and neutral tutorial. :)

(If you weren't lucky enough to scoop up the Coffee House Collection while it was still available--fear not! Mo plans to bring it back for the Holidays! Hooray!)

As always, gather the necessary supplies (you'll notice that I went pretty "minimal" with this one!):

(Left to right: Too Faced Shadow Insurance; Madd Style Cosmetics piggies: Dirty Chai, Caramel Macchiato and Fresh Pots!; Flat Shadow Brush; Angled Fluffy Crease Brush; Pointed Crease Brush/Pencil Brush; Gabriel Color Mascara in "Black".)

Make sure your eyelids are nice and clean. Then, prime! As much of the product you see on my finger (in the middle picture!) is how much I use for both eyes. I rub my two ring fingers together and then evenly spread the product on both lids--up to the crease/brow bone area. Then I bring what is left of the product down around my ducts and along the lower lash line.

For this look I wanted to keep it nice and soft. To help achieve this, do not apply a base (my chosen base is NXY Eyeshadow Base in "White"). Instead--skip right on ahead to the piggie application! To begin, dip a regular ol' flat shader brush into the very lovely "Dirty Chai"! Apply this colour all over the entire lid.

Next, take a fluffy angled crease brush and dip it into "Caramel Macchiato"! This was my first time using these piggies and had I known just how intense Caramel Macchiato gets--I would have applied even less of it to this fluffy brush! Place the brush at the outside corner of your eyelid and slowly work it throughout your entire crease area.

(Step 1!)

Bring the Caramel Macchiato all the way into the inner crease (as seen in the leftmost picture). Then, go back to the outsider corner (with the same fluffy brush) and bring the colour out/soften its edges--especially on that outside corner.

(Step 2!)

Now. Dip a pointed crease brush (or a pencil brush would work too!) into "Fresh Pots!". Starting at the outside part of your upper lash line--line the outside half of your lid with this. On the picture in the right, you can see that I "winged" this colour out a bit--just like how I would do with regular liner. Because I kept this piggie dry (instead of wetting it), it helps to keep the whole look nice and soft.

Finish off with Fresh Pots! by applying it along the lower lash line. Make sure to connect it up with the Fresh Pots! you had put on your upper lash line at that outside corner. This gives you a subtle "cat eye" effect.

If you made the same mistake I did (and applied a bit too much Caramel Macchiato into the crease), continue trying to blend it out!! Here I am, going at it with that same fluffy brush. I blended around the Caramel Macchiato and also down below on the lower lash line to help soften the Fresh Pots!. Then apply some mascara!

And then I still wasn't entirely happy with how blended it was. So I went in with my finger to help really soften that outer edge of the Caramel Macchiato.

The final look should be something like this:

:)

I hope you all enjoyed this coffee-licious tutorial!!

Madd Style Cosmetics: Plan 9 has a party with Ichabod and Redrum

Hiiiiii Everyone!

Two nights ago I received a sample set of the NEW House of Horrors collection by none other than Madd Style Cosmetics. Even though I got home late and didn't have time to play with it until night--I *needed* to play with three of the collection colours in the look that you're about to learn about. :)

The three colours I'll be featuring from the collection are:

Plan 9--a black that is SO FULL of holographic glitter that it's just...CRAZY, I tell you!

Ichabod--a loooovely pumpkin orange with gold glitter.

Redrum--a TASTY wine/merlot!

Aren't they marvelous?!!!!!!!!

To begin, gather the supplies!

(Top to bottom, left to right: Milani Power Lash in "Black"; Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencils in "Yeyo" (white) and "Zero" (black); Too Faced Shadow Insurance; Madd Style Cosmetics "Awesome Sauce"; Madd Style Cosmetics Pigments: Plan 9, Ichabod, Redrum, Sparkle Motion and Birfday Suit; Brushes: flat shaded brush, domed crease brush, angled liner, slanted shadow brush, pointed crease/pencil style brush, small fluffy crease brush (isn't that brush neat?!!!); Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in "NSFW".)

Also, grab your clean eye!

First, as always, you will want to prime those lids! I'm using Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I put a bit on my ring finger, rub my two ring fingers together, and then apply it all over the lid (up to the brow), down by the duct and on the lower lash line.

(Disclaimer: Gah! I forgot I had some left over nail polish on my nails. Seriously. I was too excited to play with these darn things!)

For a base, use something black. I am using my black Urban Decay pencil in "Zero". I appled it all over the lid!

(Disclaimer #2: Yes, there is a hair by my eyebrow. I move it...eventually...here I thought I was checking all of my pictures to make sure they were in focus and that there weren't random hairs all over the place, but as you'll see...I wasn't checking that as well as I thought I was!! Sorry!!!)

While you have the black pencil out, do some tightlining on your top lid, line your waterline and the outer 1/3rd of your lower lash line! If you're going to be going out (and you're not just playing with makeup in the middle of the night for fun) you would want to set your waterline with some matte black shadow. I didn't do this--as I pretty much took everything off an hour after putting it on. But if you don't set your waterline, that black will disappear within a couple of hours.

Next, take a white liner pencil. Line the inside 2/3rds of your lower lash line with this. Blend the white in slightly with the black.

I made a boo-boo and forgot to take an "end" shot of this step--but basically you want to use your ring finger to blend out the black base on your lid. Blend it up toward your crease.

Then, pull our your Madd Style Cosmetics "Awesome Sauce"! Apply a small drop of it (less is more, I mean it!) to your ring finger, rub your two ring fingers together, and dab it all over your lid. Concentrate this on your lid--but it's okay if some of it gets into the crease area. This will really help to make the awesome glitter of Plan 9 stick to your lid. I promise, it will!

(Reader: "danielle! That picture on the right isn't in focus!"
danielle: "I know, reader! I'm sorrrrrry! I'll do better next time!)

After applying the Awesome Sauce, you're going to want to wait for a few minutes until it gets a bit tacky. This should take a few minutes.

Yep, put your glasses on, make a funny face, and watch some Sopranos (at least that is what I was up to!).

Now for some Plan 9 action!! Taking a flat shader brush, apply Plan 9 to your lid. Since this colour has a lot of awesome glitter--you will want to be sure to "press" this colour on to your lid. DO NOT swipe this colour on. With the Awesome Sauce on--that will act as a magnet for the glitter--but you will want to do your best not to give any of that glitter a reason to jump ship and fall down on to the tops of your cheeks!

To blend out the Plan 9, switch to a domed crease brush and dip it into Plan 9. Starting at the outside corner of the eye, apply this into the crease. Using a fluffier brush will do half of the work of "fading" the colour out.

At this point, you'll have something like this:

Ahhhhh the glitter! It's NUTS!

Here's a(n out of focus) CLOSE UP--just in case you don't believe me...

Leave the lid alone for a while now--and proceed to the lower lash line. Switch to an angled liner brush and dip it into Ichabod. Apply this to the first 1/3rd of your lower lash line.

Next, using the same brush, dip it into Redrum. Apply this to the middle 1/3rd of your lower lash line.

If you do what I did--you might accidentally cover up too much Ichabod. Don't worry--go back in with more Ichabod--and blend it over into the Redrum.

Lastly--using that same magical angled liner brush--go into the equally as magical Plan 9. Apply it to the outer 1/3rd of the lower lash line and blend Redrum over into it.

Go back up to the lid. Take a slanted shadow brush and dip it into Birfday Suit. Apply this colour below your eyebrow/as a brow "highlight". This is your chance to blend out Plan 9 a bit more. On the rightmost picture you'll see that I go all the way around the black to help fade it a bit more (although admittedly this look isn't meant to be "subtle"--if the black is too much for you--just don't take it so far up into your crease).

For the duct, take your sparkliest white--for me--that is Sparkle Motion. Apply this color to your duct!

At this point I decided to do a bit more blending of Plan 9. I took a small fluffy blending brush and worked on the edges a bit more!

Voila!

Reapply glasses and funny face--and kick back!

OR

Continue to tinker...and apply a red lip, for some extra fun! Here I used OCC's Lip Tar in "NSFW". I applied it over the entire lip area (over some MSC Lip Bomb!) and then dabbed some Ichabod pigment into the center of my lip (it didn't really pick up in the photo though! I do plan on doing a proper tutorial on jazzing up your lip tars with MSC pigments!).

NOW you're really ready to put your hair up, kick waaay back, and watch even MORE Sopranos!

I hope you all enjoyed this tutorial!! As always--if you have any questions about a particular step or you want to see me do something specific in a future tutorial, just let me know!

Fun fact you didn't know about me: if I could always have red nails, I would do it! What's mostly keeping me from realizing my dream is my terrible tendency of putting on nail polish, finding an imperfection in it, and then taking it ALL off a few hours after putting it on! One day I might conquer this. I must just need more practice, right?! :)

EOTD: Late Night Company Mash-Up (Madd Style Cosmetics, Sugarpill, Inglot & Naked Cosmetics!)

For some reason I always seem to get inspired to do my makeup when I'm going to be going to bed in about an hour. Tonight was no exception!

I also decided it would be fun to use many different companies together in a single look! It all started out with me wanting to use Inglot's 385 Matte in my crease with a "light colour" on the lid.

This is what I ended up with:

Products used:
  • MTCoffinz "Under the Rainbow" primer
  • NXY Eyeshadow Base in "White"
  • Urban Decay's 24/7 Pencil in "Yeyo" applied to lower lash line and in duct
  • Madd Style Cosmetics "Pisces" applied to first 2/3rds of lid
  • Inglot "385 Matte" applied to outer lid and blended heavily (but applied lightly) into crease
  • Madd Style Cosmetics "Birfday Suit" for brow highlight
  • Sugarpill "Poison Plum" applied to entire lower lash line
  • Sugarpill "Weekender" applied to outer 3/4 of lower lash line
  • Naked Cosmetics "Purple" from the Ivory Stack in the duct
  • Urban Decay's 24/7 Pencil in "Zero" applied to waterline
  • Urban Decay's Ink for Eyes in "Zero" for a "soft" winged liner
  • Milani Power Lash for mascara
And that's all, folks! :)

EOTD: Youtube dupage (Madd Style Cosmetics, Sugarpill and Inglot)

Hi!

Yesterday morning I watched Cora (of Vintage or Tacky)'s newest "Poison Cupcake" tutorial and then I decided to try my hands duping it using the products I have on hand.

And this was the result!

And here is a neato close-up of the lid, specifically:

Products used:
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance for a primer
  • NYX Eyeshadow Base in "White" as a base
  • Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-on pencil in "Yeyo" (white) applied to lower lash line and duct area
  • Sugarpill's "Poison Plum" applied to the crease and lower lash line
  • Inglot's "Matte 318" (a matte white) applied as the brow highlight
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's "Nambie Pambie" to blend out the purple toward the brow bone
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's "Unicorns & Glitter" applied to center of the lid and blended out slightly on the edges
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's "Outlaw Star" applied to the inner and outer portions of the lid
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's "Columbia" applied to the duct
  • Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-on pencil in "Zero" to tightline and applied to the waterline
  • NYX Super Skinny Marker applied to upper lash line
  • Milani Power Lash for mascara (Milani claims to be animal product free--but apparently they might use carmine or other "bug" parts in some of their products. This mascara didn't have beeswax in it, so I got excited and scooped it up when I was in Florida!)
I think the product mix I used to duplicate the look turned out pretty good!

The end! :)

Oh! P.S.: I'm super excited about the response I've been getting so far for my giveaway!! Reading all of your comments has made my Thanksgiving weekend!!

(Canadian) Thanksgiving 100 Followers Giveaway!

Hi Everyone!

Today is Thanksgiving and I thought: "How better to celebrate than to be thankful of all of my followers by rolling-out my 100 Followers Giveaway?!"!! :)

So?! Are you ready to see what the prize is?!!

Bam! All of these have been purchased by me (the sample of Illuminati was included in one of my packages from Mo) and I selected the colours based on some of my favorites from most colour groups! As you can see, this is heavily a Madd Style Cosmetics giveaway--even though I am one of their official models, I would not continue to use their products if I did not stand behind them 100%. :)

Here's are some closer up shots of the goods!

(MSC Awesome Sauce, Limited Edition MSC Sugar Lips Healing Balm in "Cuppy Cake", and MSC Lip Bombs in: Fun House, Jack Frost and Frankencake.)

(MSC Piggies: Xray Spex, Rambozo, Princess Buttahcup, Ecto Cooler, Waffle, Sugar Plum, Young Blood, Limited Edition "All that Glitters" and Taransula. + Sample of Illuminati!)

I also swatched all of these colours (from my personal collection--obviously I didn't open up the ones I'll be sending the to lucky winner!):

(As you all know...swatching is NOT my strong point, but I tried!! These were all swatched over a primer and the very same NYX Eyeshadow Base in "White" that is part of the prize.)

And last, but not least, the tools/accessories:

(A flat synthetic shader brush by Royal & Langnickel, the Ecotools 6 piece Bamboo Eye Brush Set and #116 NXY False Eyelashes.)

Now what you all want to know: how to win!

The Rules:
  • This giveaway is open internationally!
  • You must be 18 years or older to participate (make friends with someone who is 18 if you're younger than that--then make them enter!)
  • You must be a follower/subscriber to my blog
  • Leave a comment, to this blog, telling me what you are most thankful for (include your email address at the end of the comment so I have a way of getting a hold of you!). :)
Do you want an extra entry or two?
  • Leave another comment telling me what kind of tutorial you'd like to see me do in the future! Colour ideas, inspirational pictures, techniques, anything goes! (1 extra entry of this category, per person)
  • Bring a friend to my blog and get them to enter my contest! One friend will count as 1 extra entry (3 maximum extra entries of this category, per person). When your friend makes their comment telling me what they are most thankful for, they must leave your name/username in their comment to say that you referred them! If they don't do this, then I won't know who the extra entries should be credited to! (Make sure you pick three smart friends!)
Simple enough? Great! Let me know if you have any questions! Otherwise, this giveaway is open from NOW until October 23rd (Noon, pacific time).

Also--it's likely that I will add a (smaller) second place prize--so two lucky people will win! Hooray!

Thank you again--all 115 of you (currently), for taking the time to follow my blog and read my ramblings. I super duper appreciate it!

Edit (10/23/2011) @12.02pm: This giveaway is now CLOSED! Thank you so much to all of you who entered! I will tabulate the entries and notify the winners within 48 hours! Yep, that's right! I'm going to do a small(er) second place prize! :)

EOTD: Girls Night Out with Madd Style Cosmetics

Hi!

I'd like to get into the habit of posted my EOTDs more often. I've been pretty busy working two jobs at the moment--so I haven't been playing with makeup as much I had been in the summer. Sad, but true. But this is all the more reason to post my EOTDs--since they don't happen too too often! :)

Last night was a girls night out. I knew that I wanted to do something sliver or grey and I ended up with this:

Products used:
  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance as a primer
  • NXY Eyeshadow Base in "White"--applied to the first 2/3rds of the lid
  • Urban Decay's 24/7 Easy Glide pencil in "Zero" applied to the outer 1/3rd of the eyelid and along most of the lower lash line
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's Cobwebs (from the Drop Dead Fred collection) on the lid.
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's "Matte Grey" (from the Up in Smoke collection) in the crease.
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's Wanderlust applied to the outer crease/outer corner of the lid--also taken down along the lower lash line
  • A bit of Cobwebs on the inner 1/3rd of the lower lash line
  • Madd Style Cosmetics's Sparkle Motion in the duct
  • Madd Style Cosmetics Birfday Suit applied as the brow highlight
  • A duo of Barry M's Wink Black Marker and NYX's Super Skinny Marker for the liner
  • Barry M Intense Black 3 in 1 mascara
  • Quo Half Lashes in #817

I hope you enjoyed this EOTD! :)
