Victorian Disco Cosmetics Review

I have been anxiously awaiting my very first package from Victorian Disco Cosmetics and today the waiting finally came to an end! VDC is a relatively new mineral eyeshadow company that I came to know through my ever lovely friend, Courtney (of Glamourpuss). VDC produces vegan eyeshadow and when I saw their Final Fantasy inspired duos, I knew that I *had* to have them!!

I placed my order on January 19th. As you'll see from my photos, my package was mailed on January 25th. I received it (in Canada) today! The wait was a bit long, but the mail must just be moving slowly right now! So without further ado--let's get on to the pictures!!

My package was shipped in a standard bubble mailer. It got to me safe and sound!

VDC puts special care in packaging, as you can see. My whole order was bundled together in this little cute black bag.

The invoice was included--with a special little note. (Enlarge if you want to read all of the geeky-ness. :))

I quite like their business cards! The faint lace background is a lovely touch!

My order came with two samples. Sailor Saturn and Sailor Moon! I forgot to swatch these while I was taking pictures, but as you can see, one is a nice deep purple while the other is a pretty gold colour.

All of my duos came in mini-little black bags. A bit overkill on the packaging, maybe. But it's still nice to see a new(ish) company putting in so much effort on presentation!

The lids of each pot have a lovely "Crystalline Affections" sticker on the top.

And now...on to the colours!!

Lulu/Wakka. I really like that the bottoms of the jars list the ingredients and whether the product is lip safe! That is handy! Lulu is a lovely blackened purple with a lot of purple glitter. When I swatched it, this colour felt the "grittiest"--but I think that is because of all of the glitter. Wakka, on the other hand, was smooth as vegan-butter. Wakka was described as a "golden orangey rust color with orange flecks and copper glitter".

(One thing to note: these jars did NOT come with sifters--which I like!
I'm anti-sifter, if you will!)

Riona/Squall. These two colours are gorgeous!! Riona is a very pretty light blue. Squall surprised me--I liked it (him!) way more than I thought I would!! It's a lovely deep brown with gold glitter.

Aeris/Cloud. This pair is easily the reason I purchased in the first place--because they're characters in my *favorite* FF game, FFVII! Aeris is a stunning light pink with rose coloured glitter. Cloud is a deep blue with gold glitter. Both are just sooooooo pretty.

Yuna/Tidus. The second pair that I knew I had to have! Yuna is a light lavender toned pink with pink glitter. Tidus is a really really neat gold with gold glitter--I don't have another gold colour quite like this! (And here I thought I had every gold IN THE WORLD!)

And now for some swatches!! The top half of the picture is in natural light, the bottom has a flash. These were applied over MTCoffinz "Under the Rainbow" primer. The flash really helps to show off the lovely sheen that these colours have. These are also some of the only mineral eyeshadows that I have that contain "caranuba wax" as an ingredient...and I was very curious to see how that would "feel" different on my skin. So far, I haven't noticed much of a difference!

My experience, thus far, with VDC has been great! I would definitely recommend them based on the pigmentation and texture of their product. I also really appreciate the little touches like the signed invoice and great care they take in packaging their orders. VDC also does their own glitter blends and I've seen some pretty spectacular pictures of those--so I'll have to try them out in my next order!

Edit (7:45pm!): I decided to play with Tidus and Squall. They were calling to me!

Tidus on the lid, waterline and first half of the lower lash line. Squall in the crease, outer lash line, and outer-most lid.

(I used a non-VCD colour in my duct and to blend out Squall/as a brow highlight. I also used another company's matte black as a dry/smudgy winged liner.)

Urban Decay Mini Haul

When Urban Decay announced that they were going to be making their 24/7 pencil in "Perversion" a permanent full-sized fixture in their line (previously the pencil could only be bought as part of a set and usually (if not always?) that set was a travel size)...I *knew* that I had to have it! And since I was already putting in an order, I figured it was a good excuse to also order one of their concealer pencils in one of the newest shades. And THEN I also bought a small thing from the "sales" page--cause you know--sales are fun?! :)

My order got to me yesterday and I was super duper excited. I wanted to play with everything right away--but I managed to wait until I could take pictures today (in rather crappy lighting, admittedly). So without further ado...my order!

To begin, la piece de resistance: 24/7 Glide-on pencil in "Perversion".

This is likely a comparison you've seen before, but I had to do it for myself (of course!). This is 24/7 pencil in "Zero" compared to "Perversion".

(I mean, come on. Can that even be called a comparison?!)

Next, the Pocket Rocket lipgloss in "Julio"! This was the item I got on sale. I think it cost something silly like 5 bucks. (Yep, I'll take it!) Originally I was thinking this would be fun to layer on top of my OCC Lip Tars.

The packaging was like this!

The handle of the gloss's wand has this weird holographic picture of a man with a baby...I don't really "get" it...but you know...okay. Man with baby. Good!

Up close--it's pretty!

The wand has a "paint brush" type tip. It seems like a pretty nice wand. The product itself has a scent...I can't really put my finger on what it's supposed to smell like exactly. It's sweet and cupcake-y.

I even tried to swatch it. No flash on the left, with flash on the right. The texture of this gloss is quite nice. It's on the "thicker" side, but I don't mind that one bit.

Last, but not least, my 24/7 Concealer in "DEA".

Another pretty box. (This and the 24/7 pencil box are going to be the boxes that I keep for absolutely no reason...other than...because they're pretty...)

And the product looks like this. My plan is to really "wear" it down so that when I sharpen it, I don't lose much product.

I also attempted to swatch this in my failing light. No flash on left, with flash on right. The product itself is nice and creamy. It glided on to my skin very smoothly!
(I actually think I managed to pick out a pretty decent colour for myself, hooray for that!!)

I've been so busy with my two jobs again that doing fun stuff like posting to my blog takes a back seat. But I've been collecting some awesome stuff (even if I don't have much time to play with it)! EOTD: Company Mash-Up (Sugarpill and Madd Style Cosmetics)

The other night I actually "went out"! Yes, I put makeup on my face and actually left the house. (Sometimes I do wear makeup to work, but more often than not my quality time spent with makeup is in the evenings, before bed. This means the makeup usually isn't seen by anyone other than my husband. Well, and you know...the internet...) My plan for this latest excursion was to do a traditional black smoky eye, with a colourful crease.

This is what I came up with:

Ideally I would have applied some falsies so that my lashes didn't get so lost in all of the black, but I ran out of time. As a concession, I attempted to actually layer on a couple coats of mascara!

Products used:

• Too Faced Shadow Insurace
• Urban Decay 24/7 pencil in "Zero" as a black base on the lid, to line the lower lash line, and to line the waterline
• Sugarpill's Bulletproof (a freakin' amazing black. Holy smokes. This was my first time trying it out in a bold "black" look. I was super impressed with it!) applied to the lid and lower lash line and to set the waterline
• Madd Style Cosmetics Sugarplum applied to the crease and to blend out the Bulletproof on the lower lash line
• Madd Style Cosmetics Xray Spex to blend out the Sugarplum and to highlight the brow/duct area
• Milan's Power Lash for first coat of mascara
• Gabriel Color mascara in "Black" for second coat

EOTD: Sugarpill Cosmetics (Inventory Eyes)

Hi!!

This evening I have to work an inventory/night shift. I figured if I'm going to be up until the wee hours of the morning, I might as well have super fantastically colourful eyes to make up for it!! This also gave me a great excuse to play with ALL of the pressed Sugarpill eyeshadows that I own! :)

Here is what I came up with:


Products used:

• Too Faced Shadow Insurance
• NYX Eyeshadow Base in "White"
• Urban Decay's 24/7 pencil in "Yeyo" applied to duct, lower lash line and waterline
  
• Sugarpill's Buttercupcake applied to first half of lid
• Sugarpill's Midori in first outer 1/3rd of lid
• Sugarpill's Afterparty in middle outer 1/3rd of lid
• Sugarpill's Poison Plum (blended with some Bulletproof) in last outer 1/3rd of lid and blended up into the outer crease
  
• Sugarpill's Birthday Girl in inner crease and blended over the outer crease as well
• Sugarpill's Tako for a brow highlight and to set the waterline
• Sugarpill's Poison Plum on lower lash line
• Naked Cosmetics "Ivory Stack" (Gold) applied to duct
• NYX Super Skinny Marker for liner + Sugarpill's Bulletproof to set outer corner of liner.
  
• Barry M Intense Black Mascara + Gabriel Color Mascara in "Black"
  

I think that's it!

Madd Style Cosmetics: Embrace the Black!

For this tutorial I decided to try filming it!! It is essentially 1 part: a tutorial on using blacks and 1 part: a review of my new Sigma Mrs. Bunny brush set!

PS: My 2012 Makeup-related Resolution: NO MORE BUYING BRUSHES! Seriously. With this set I now have 84. 84 brushes is enough for me (for this year)! :)
